The Big Island of Hawaii

Larger than all the other Hawaiian Islands combined, the Big Island of Hawaii more than lives up to its name. And it's still growing - volcanic eruptions from Kilauea Crater continually expand the coastline.

With 11 distinct climate zones, the Big Island is a land of contrasts - huge volcanic mountains, lush green rainforests, and 260 miles of shoreline where the water is warm enough for year-round swimming. There are white-, black-, and green-sand beaches. You can build a snowman atop Mauna Kea, visit a cattle ranch or a championship golf course, and take advantage of some of the finest locations in the world for deep-sea fishing. The natural diversity of the Big Island is sure to surprise and inspire you.

ResortQuest Hawaii condominium resorts make the perfect home base for exploring the island at your own pace. During your Big Island vacation, you can:

  • Watch molten lava flowing into the sea at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home to Mauna Loa and Kilauea, the world's most active volcano. While most visitors tour the park by car, the more adventurous can hike or bike its many trails.

  • Gaze up at the stars from the Visitor Information Station on the slopes of Mauna Kea, home to the world's largest astronomical observatory. When measured from its underwater base, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world - yes, even taller than Everest.

  • Step back in time by visiting the island's many historical and cultural landmarks, including museums, old churches and missionary houses and the peaceful sanctuary at Puuhonua o Honaunau or Place of Refuge. This national historic site was home to the ruling chief, as well as offering asylum to those who trespassed against the law.

  • Explore charming Kailua-Kona Town, nestled at the foot of the Hualalai Volcano on the island's western coast. The town hosts the annual Ironman Triathlon, and offers numerous fine shops and restaurants. If you're a coffee lover, you're in for a special treat - the region's world-famous Kona coffee is served all over town.

Whether you're looking for an active vacation or a quiet retreat, or a little of both, the Big Island of Hawaii is sure to deliver. We invite you to stay with us at one of ResortQuest Hawaii's three condominium resorts.
