ResortQuest KeikiQuest Kids Club

ResortQuest Hawaii will once again begin its "KeikiQuest Kids Club" summer children's program on June 15, 2008, at the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel. The program not only offers fun daytime activities for keiki (children), including outdoor recreation and discovery, but educates youngsters about Hawaii's culture, its unique marine and land environments, and Hawaiian arts and crafts.

The KeikiQuest Kids Club was created primarily for families with young children during Oahu's busy summer family travel period, allowing parents to enjoy "grown-up" activities during the day, while kids have fun with their own peers.

The program will run June 15 through August 23, 2008, seven days a week, and will be housed in a specially designated "KeikiQuest Club room" on the pool deck level of the ResortQuest Waikiki Beach Hotel. It is open to children ages 5 through 12 staying at any of ResortQuest Hawaii's 8 Waikiki resorts. Daily programs run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include lunch as part of the $50 daily (plus tax) fee per child. For details, inquire during check-in at the front desk of the ResortQuest Hawaii hotel or resort you're staying at.

Program Schedule of Daily Activities:

Each daily program is unique and includes various indoor hands-on activities and outdoor experiential excursions scheduled during morning and afternoon sessions. The program and facility will be coordinated and run by Kamaaina Kids - Hawaii's preeminent leader in kids' daycare and after school A+ programs with certified instructors. Daily activities/schedules include the following:

MONDAY

  • Morning: Bishop Museum
On this exciting excursion, we'll visit the new Robotic Whales exhibit, before venturing into the crater of a volcano at the Science Adventure Center. Over 16,000 square feet of interactive exhibits and high-tech displays will allow us to discover the volcanoes, oceans and diverse environments of Hawai'i and the Pacific.

  • Afternoon: Petroglyphs & Sand Volcanoes
Keiki learn about Hawaiian petroglyphs, and the ancient stories they reveal, while creating their own Petroglyph bookmarks, rubbings or sand art. Then, it's an afternoon of fun in the sand! We'll build a gigantic sand volcano, complete with flowing red lava.

TUESDAY

  • Morning: Waikiki Aquarium
We'll visit the home of amazing marine life from the tropical Pacific and Hawai'i. In the galleries, keiki come face-to-face with circling reef sharks, dancing sea dragons and graceful jellies. In the outer exhibits they may hold a hermit crab, spy on a monk seal doing headstands, and view a colorful array of growing corals.

  • Afternoon: Ocean Crafts & Beach Fun
Keiki exercise creativity while making crafts, such as Hawaiian gyotaku, or reef fish rubbings, limu, or seaweed bookmarks, or ocean critter magnets. These ocean-related crafts will be wonderful souvenirs from their island vacations. Then, it's time for some sun-splashing fun as we go swimming in the waters off Waikiki Beach.

WEDNESDAY

  • Morning: Hanai Bear Activity, Shaved Ice & Beach Fun
Keiki will enjoy stuffing their dolphin, shark or teddy bear to care for and take home. They'll hanai (adopt) and name their new cuddly Hawaiian buddy. Then, eating tasty creations of ono (delicious) shave ice, will be so refreshing after our afternoon swim at Waikiki Beach. (Note: An additional fee of $14 per child will be assessed for the Hanai Bear)

  • Afternoon: Lu Coral Museum & Beach Activities
One coral, two coral, come along to Lu Coral. At this fabulous museum, we'll touch, see and smell corals, pearls, gemstones, fossils and other natural treasures from tropical locations. We'll walk a pathway lined with jade statues, pearls from Pearl Harbor, corals from the Seven Seas, fossil grottos, and more! Keiki will even string gorgeous gemstone bracelets to wear or keep as souvenirs. Later, we'll hit the beach to enjoy sandy activities in the sun.

THURSDAY

  • Morning and Afternoon: Sea Life Park with a Beach Picnic
This all-day adventure takes us to the east side of the island, to a happy kingdom by the sea. Here keiki will see dolphins dance, sea lions sing and penguins perform. We'll view a variety of marine life and make amazing discoveries at educational attractions like The Dolphin Cove, Kalohe Kai Surfing Sea Lions and Stingray Lagoon. Our East O'ahu trip includes a fun picnic lunch at Makapu'u Beach.

FRIDAY

  • Morning: Crabbing
We're off to Kahala Beach Park on a hunt for crabs. These are no ordinary sand critters, so we'll carry special nets and keep our eyes peeled for a monster! Before leaving, we'll count the crabs, and toss them back to their underwater homes. Our photos will preserve the memories of this exciting adventure!

  • Afternoon: Catamaran Sail
An hour-long journey aboard a double-hulled catamaran offers spectacular views of the Pacific. As we cruise from Waikiki just past Diamond Head, we'll watch for the splashing breakers and the exotic marine life below. It's likely that we'll wave 'hello' to a sea turtle, a school of flying fish or playful spinner dolphins as we sail by.

SATURDAY

  • Morning: Hula, Lei Making & Ukulele
Keiki gain exposure to Hawaiian culture through art, dance and song. We'll string bright silk lei to wear while learning a traditional Hawaiian dance. Keiki will get a chance to strum a happy Hawaiian tune on an ukulele.

  • Afternoon: Surf Lessons
Surf's up! After a quick lesson on land, we'll grab our boards and head to the beautiful waters off Waikiki. Instructors from the surf school founded by legendary Hans Hedemann will help us catch waves, and keiki will always remember this experience in Hawai'i, where surfing was originally born as "The Sport of Kings."

SUNDAY

  • Morning: Honolulu Zoo & Ulumaika with a Picnic
Keiki will walk through an African savannah and visit some of their favorite animals that reside in Honolulu Zoo. A newly developed Children's Zoo gives us close encounters with friendly farm animals, llamas, fish and fowl. We'll also enjoy a delightful picnic in the park, followed by a few rounds of ulumaika, an ancient Hawaiian game of skill.

  • Afternoon: Hawaiian Crafts & Beach Fun
Keiki make crafts, reflecting Hawaiian culture, which they may take home as souvenirs. Hawaiian tattoos, Petroglyph artwork, or shell picture frames are some of the crafts they may create. Then, we'll take a walk to Waikiki Beach for a fun-filled afternoon in the sun.
